Training is reward based, using treats and praise. No choke collars or extending leads are allowed, just an ordinary collar or harness and lead. Each dog is treated as an individual as they all learn at different rates. The Beginner class takes dogs from 5 months and upwards. Socialisation and habituation are still integral parts of the training as well as helping you have a well behaved and happy dog. This class teaches all the basic positions plus loose lead heelwork, recall and stays. We hope we can help you to achieve this and enjoy yourselves at the same time. The Intermediate and Advanced classes are for dogs and handlers who would like to do a little more obedience with their dogs although we are not a competition minded club. However there is a Competition for the Intermediate & Advanced Classes held once a year in June. These classes cover advanced recalls, road safety stops, advanced stays, send away and distance control. Mini Fun Agility nights
are also held at the Club on the last week of the month, as an
alternative to the regular training sessions. This gives mental
stimulation to both dogs and owners and helps build confidence in timid or fearful dogs. ***Intensive 6 Week Beginner Courses***are available. Each class will have a maximum of 8 dogs, so book early to avoid disappointment. Dogs must be 5 months or older and classes must be booked in advance and pre-paid. Check our events section for details of the next available course. Monthly Awards are presented to the Dog/Handler who has improved the most throughout the month.
