About The Club Glasgow Dog Training Club has been established for over thirty years. The Club has a dedicated Committee who are always on hand to help. The Committee are keen dog owners who give up their time voluntarily to educate and help members of the public to be responsible dog owners and have happy, well trained dogs. At present the committee consists of Robert MacKinnon (Vice Chairman), Carol McQueen (Treasurer), the girls, Lynsey, Lorna, Trish, Lynne and Louise as well as our Junior Committee Member, Rebecca. The Club works closely with Glasgow Dogs Trust by fund raising and helping at their various events. The Club is non profit making and donates to various "doggie charities" i.e. the new Small Animal Clinic, Greyhound Awareness League etc. and of course Glasgow Dogs Trust. Valerie Burns is our Head Trainer. (MAPDT 00862) Val is a Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and only uses kind, fair and effective means of reward based training. She holds a Diploma (with distinction) in Canine Care, Training, Health and Behaviour and a Certificate from COAPE. She continues to further her knowledge and keeps up to date with new training methods by regularly attending seminars and workshops in the field of training and behaviour. Val has worked voluntarily for Canine Concern (Scotland) Trust since 2002 and is a Therapet Assessor and Area Representative for Glasgow. Two of her dogs are Therapets and visit Wellmeadow Lodge Care Home, Newton Mearns and Linn Park Adventure Playground for children with additional needs. Val is also training to work with children who are dog phobic. At present Val has three dogs, two English Setters, Skye and Lucy and Labrador, Anna. Her latest addition is Roger the Welsh Mountain pony who is responding well to clicker training and can perform several tricks! She has a wealth of experience in working with different breeds of dogs and has owned a variety of dogs throughout her life. She has worked, bred and shown an assortment of dogs over the years. Val has been involved with the Club now for over fifteen years and continues to improve the services offered for the Members of the Club. Services available
